The Arizona Witch

Magickal spells, rituals, potions, and practices for the beginner Witch.

Why I started my practice:

As I faced my fortieth birthday last summer, I felt a bit a drift in life. While I have the world’s most amazing partner and animals, the rest of my life seemed stagnant. I was working a dead end office job, suffering from numerous health issues, and of course the state of the world today was not helping any. I found myself searching for some sort of meaning in life. On a complete whim, I picked up The Green Witch by Arin Murphy-Hiscock and a whole new world was open to me. With that one book, I rediscovered a beautiful and peaceful way of looking at and interacting with our world.

I say rediscovered because when I was a preteen and teenager, witchcraft and the occult fascinated me. To my mother’s distress, I bought every book I could find on the subject in our suburban second-hand book store, or borrowed them from the library. I desperately wanted to become Wiccan, but lacked the resources and knowledge in the pre-internet early and mid 90s. I never voiced this wish to my parents, although they would have been skeptical but supportive of me. By the time we could afford a computer and the internet, I had walked away from the idea of becoming Wiccan. Moving to a very rural and extraordinarily small- minded town at the age of 11 certainly didn’t help.

The rituals and practices of witchcraft have improved my life in countless number of ways, both physically and mentally. In 2014, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and in 2018, I was diagnosed with seronegative rheumatoid arthritis. While witchcraft has obviously not cured these conditions, I have discovered alternative ways to treat my flare-ups in addition to my medications. The practices of grounding and candle meditation help greatly when one of my panic attacks come on.

My goal for this blog is to have a place to share any tips or tricks I have for fellow new witches, as well as share simple spells, rituals, and practices for a witch on the go!
